Biography
Luis Alcoriza was a Spanish-born Mexican screenwriter, film director and actor. Born in Badajoz, Spain, on 5 September 1918, he left Spain during the Civil War and settled in Mexico from 1940, later becoming a naturalised Mexican citizen. He died in Cuernavaca, Morelos, on 3 December 1992.
Alcoriza collaborated frequently with Luis Buñuel on screenplays, including The Young and the Damned (1950), Él (1953), Death in the Garden (1956) and The Exterminating Angel (1962). He also wrote for other directors and directed his own films, among them Tlayucan (1962), which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. He was married to Janet Alcoriza.
