Biography
Lupe Ontiveros was an American actress. Born Guadalupe Moreno in El Paso, Texas, on 17 September 1942, she studied social work at Texas Woman's University before working as a social worker. She began acting in the 1970s after answering an advertisement for film extras.
Ontiveros appeared in numerous films and television series. Her credits include Rosalita in The Goonies (1985), Yolanda Saldívar in Selena (1997), Nora Manning in As Good as It Gets (1997), Beverly Franco in Chuck & Buck (2000) and Juanita 'Mama' Solis in Desperate Housewives (2004). She also had a recurring role in Weeds (2005).
She received a National Board of Review award for best supporting actress for Chuck & Buck and an Emmy nomination for her work on Desperate Housewives. Ontiveros founded the Latino Theater Company in Los Angeles in 1985 and estimated that she had played maids or housekeepers in at least 150 productions.
