Biography
Lyle Mitchell Corbine Jr. is an American Ojibwe writer, director and producer. He grew up on and around Native American reservations in Wisconsin and Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota, where he studied English and Philosophy, before beginning to make short films.
Corbine made a number of no-budget short films, including Shinaab (2017) and Shinaab, Part II (2019). His debut feature Wild Indian (2021), which he wrote, directed and produced, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received four nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards, including for Best First Feature and Best First Screenplay. He has worked as a staff writer on the television series Marshals (2026), writing two episodes.
Corbine participated in the Sundance Institute’s Screenwriters Lab and Directors Lab. He was named one of Filmmaker magazine’s 25 New Faces of Indie Film in 2019 and one of Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch in 2021.
