Biography
Mabel Paige was an American stage and film actress. Born in New York City, she began performing at the age of four and later worked in stock theatre companies, becoming known as the 'Idol of the South'. She appeared in numerous stage productions and, after a period away from the profession, returned to act in silent films for the Lubin Company in the 1910s, co-starring with Oliver Hardy.
Paige resumed screen work in the 1940s, appearing in more than 50 films through 1953 in supporting character roles. Her credits include Johnny Belinda (1948) as Mrs. Lutz, Johnny O'Clock (1947), Hollow Triumph (1948), The Sniper (1952) and Houdini (1953). She also appeared on Broadway in productions such as Out of the Frying Pan (1941) and Gramercy Ghost (1951), and on television in I Love Lucy (1951) as Mrs. Hansen.
