Biography
Madge Evans (born Margherita Harrison Evans) was an American actress who worked in theatre, film, radio and television. She began as a child model for Fairy Soap advertisements at the age of two and made her screen debut at five in the silent film The Sign of the Cross (1914). By the mid-1910s she had appeared in numerous East Coast productions.
Evans made her Broadway debut in 1917 in Peter Ibbetson alongside John and Lionel Barrymore. She returned to the stage in the 1920s in productions including Daisy Mayme (1926) and The Marquise (1927). Signed by MGM, she appeared in 1930s films such as Dinner at Eight (1933) and David Copperfield (1935), in which she played Agnes Wickfield. She married playwright Sidney Kingsley in 1939 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Evans died in 1981.
