Biography

Mae Clarke (born Violet Mary Klotz) was an American actress. She began her career as a dancer in vaudeville and nightclubs before appearing on stage in New York and making her film debut in the late 1920s.

Clarke is known for her roles in several 1931 films, including Kitty in The Public Enemy, Elizabeth in Frankenstein and Molly in The Front Page. She continued working in supporting and uncredited parts through the 1960s, including as a hairdresser in Singin' in the Rain (1952) and appearances in Royal Wedding (1951) and Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967).

Her career spanned stage, screen and television until the early 1970s.
