Biography
Maggie McNamara (also credited as Marguerite McNamara) was an American actress and model. Born in New York City on 18 June 1928, she began her career as a teenage fashion model before studying drama and dance. She made her Broadway debut in 1951 and replaced Barbara Bel Geddes in the lead role of The Moon Is Blue on stage.
Otto Preminger directed her in the 1953 film adaptation of The Moon Is Blue, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She followed this with the role of Maria Williams in Three Coins in the Fountain (1954) and appeared in Prince of Players (1955) and The Cardinal (1963). She also had guest roles in television series including The Twilight Zone and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. McNamara retired from acting in the mid-1960s and died in New York City on 18 February 1978.
