Biography
Maiya Williams is an American screenwriter, television producer and author. Born on 18 December 1962 in Corvallis, Oregon, she grew up in New Haven, Connecticut and Berkeley, California. She graduated from Harvard College in 1984, where she was the first African American woman elected to The Harvard Lampoon and the first African American to serve as an officer. She later earned a master's degree in African American Studies from UCLA.
Williams has written for television series including Roc (1992–1993), The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1993–1995), The Wayans Bros. (1995–1999), MADtv (2002–2006), Rugrats (1991), Futurama (2010–2025) and The Haunted Hathaways (2013–2015). She has also worked as a producer on several of these programmes and was a co-executive producer on The Last O.G.. She is married to television writer and producer Patric M. Verrone.
In 2004 Williams published her first children's book, The Golden Hour, the start of a time-travel trilogy. She has since written further novels including The Hour of the Cobra (2006) and Middle School Cool (2014).
