Biography
Makarand Deshpande is an Indian actor, writer and director who works in Hindi, Marathi and other regional language films as well as in theatre. Born on 6 March 1966, he is known for supporting roles in films including Sarfarosh (1999), Swades (2004), Company (2002), Guzaarish (2010), RRR (2022) and Jailer (2023). He made his English-language screen debut as Baba Shakti in Monkey Man (2024).
The bulk of his work is in theatre. He began performing at Prithvi Theatre in 1990 and co-founded the Ansh Theatre Group in 1993 with Kay Kay Menon. He has written and directed dozens of plays, including Sir Sir Sarla, Joke and Patni.
