Biography
Malcolm Kohll is a South African writer and film producer born on 5 November 1953. He trained as a journalist at Rhodes University in Grahamstown before moving to London, where he completed a postgraduate course in film and television at Middlesex Polytechnic. He began his career in the industry as a script reader before being accepted onto a BBC writers' course.
Kohll's first produced script was for the Doctor Who serial Delta and the Bannermen, broadcast in 1987. He later wrote and co-produced the 1990 historical drama The Fourth Reich. Returning to the UK, he joined Focus Films as Head of Development and produced several features, including The 51st State (2001) and The Bone Snatcher (2003), on which he also received a writing credit.
After more than three decades based in London, Kohll returned to Cape Town in 2014. He has served as head of the AFDA film school and co-founded the DOCi Emerging Film Makers Programme. He has also written the novel Good Hope (2014) and worked as a script editor.
