Biography
Malcolm Washington is an American film director and screenwriter. He made his feature directorial debut with The Piano Lesson (2024), which he also co-wrote with Virgil Williams. The film is an adaptation of August Wilson's play and stars his brother John David Washington.
Washington trained at the American Film Institute Conservatory, graduating in 2016. His earlier work includes the short film Benny Got Shot. The Piano Lesson premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and earned him Breakthrough Director awards at the Montclair and Hamptons film festivals.
The project was a family collaboration: his father Denzel Washington produced the film, his sister Katia Washington served as an executive producer, and his brother John David Washington starred in it.
