Biography
Marc Wilkinson (27 July 1929 – 9 January 2022) was an Australian-British composer and conductor. Born in Paris, he studied composition at Columbia and Princeton Universities and took lessons with Edgard Varèse. He worked early on with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and served as resident composer and musical director of the Royal Shakespeare Company before becoming musical director of the Royal National Theatre from 1963 to 1974.
Wilkinson composed incidental music for numerous stage productions, including Peter Shaffer’s The Royal Hunt of the Sun. His film scores include if.... (1968), The Blood on Satan’s Claw (1971), Family Life (1971), Enigma (1982) and The Mango Tree (1977). He also wrote for television series such as Hammer House of Horror (1980) and The Bell (1982). He received BAFTA nominations for his work.
