Biography
Marcello Pagliero (also credited as Marcel Pagliero) was an Italian film director, actor and screenwriter. Born in London in 1907, he moved to Italy as a child and studied law before working as a translator and screenwriter from the early 1940s.
He is known for his performance as resistance leader Giorgio Manfredi (also known as Luigi Ferraris) in Roberto Rossellini’s Rome, Open City (1945). He co-wrote the story for Rossellini’s Paisan (1946), which received an Academy Award nomination for original screenplay. Pagliero directed films including Roma città libera (1946) and moved to France in 1947, where he continued directing until the early 1960s and later worked in French television.
