Biography
Marie Kean (27 June 1918 – 29 December 1993) was an Irish stage and screen actress. She trained at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin and joined the Abbey Theatre company, where she became a key player in productions of plays by Synge, O'Casey and others.
She gained nationwide recognition in Ireland for her long-running role as Mrs Kennedy in the Radio Éireann serial The Kennedys of Castleross. On stage she performed Winnie in Samuel Beckett's Happy Days, for which she received a Jacob's Award in 1968, and the title role in the 1969 première of John B. Keane's Big Maggie.
Her film work includes Marion Fairweather in Cul-de-sac (1966), Mrs McCardle in Ryan's Daughter (1970), Barry's Mother in Barry Lyndon (1975) and Mrs Malins in The Dead (1987).
