Biography
Mariko Okada is a Japanese stage and film actress. Born on 11 January 1933 in Tokyo, she is the daughter of silent film actor Tokihiko Okada. She made her screen debut in Mikio Naruse's Dancing Girl (1951) and appeared in several of his subsequent films, including Floating Clouds (1955).
Okada starred in Yasujirō Ozu's Late Autumn (1960) and An Autumn Afternoon (1962), as well as works by Keisuke Kinoshita and Heinosuke Gosho. She left Toho for Shochiku and, from 1965 to 1971, appeared in all the films of her husband, director Yoshishige Yoshida. Later credits include Tampopo (1985) and My God, My God, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me? (2005). She has also worked extensively in theatre and on television.
