Biography
Mark Synnott is an American climber, writer and expedition leader. He has appeared as himself in several documentaries, including Free Solo (2018), which follows Alex Honnold’s ropeless ascent of El Capitan, and Explorer: The Last Tepui (2022).
Synnott has undertaken numerous exploratory expeditions, pioneering big-wall first ascents in locations such as Baffin Island and the Karakoram. He is a New York Times bestselling author whose books include The Impossible Climb (2019), recounting his friendship with Honnold and the events surrounding the Free Solo climb, and The Third Pole (2021), about a mystery on Everest.
