Biography
Markus Schleinzer is an Austrian film director, screenwriter, actor and casting director. Born on 8 November 1971 in Vienna, he began his career as a casting director, working on more than sixty Austrian productions and collaborating with directors including Michael Haneke.
Schleinzer made his feature directorial debut with Michael (2011), which he also wrote. He followed this with Angelo (2018) and Rose (2026), both of which he directed and co-wrote. Rose, a black-and-white period drama set during the Thirty Years’ War and starring Sandra Hüller, premiered in competition at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival, where Hüller won the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance.
