Biography
Martha Hyer (10 August 1924 – 31 May 2014) was an American actress. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, she studied at Northwestern University before moving to California, where she made her screen debut in an uncredited role in The Locket (1946). She appeared in numerous films throughout the 1950s and 1960s.
Hyer received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Gwen French opposite Frank Sinatra in Some Came Running (1958), directed by Vincente Minnelli. Other notable film roles include Elizabeth Tyson in Sabrina (1954), Carolyn Gibson in Houseboat (1958) and Mary Gordon in The Sons of Katie Elder (1965). She was married to producer Hal B. Wallis from 1966 until his death in 1986. Her autobiography, Finding My Way: A Hollywood Memoir, was published in 1990. She died in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
