Biography
Martha Sleeper (24 June 1910 – 25 March 1983) was an American film and stage actress. Her screen career began in 1923 with the independent film The Mailman and continued until 1945. She appeared in Hal Roach comedies in the mid-1920s, including shorts opposite Charley Chase, and was named a WAMPAS Baby Star in 1927. After signing with MGM, she played supporting roles in 1930s melodramas, often as a society woman.
Sleeper's final screen role was as Mary Gallagher in The Bells of St. Mary's (1945). She had begun stage work in Los Angeles in the early 1930s and moved to New York in 1936, appearing in Broadway productions including The Rugged Path (1945). She later designed costume jewellery and ran a boutique in Puerto Rico.
