Biography

Martin Donovan (born Carlos Enrique Varela y Peralta Ramos, 21 January 1950) is an Argentine screenwriter and film director. He began his career in Italy, assisting Luchino Visconti and appearing in films including Federico Fellini's Satyricon (1969). He later moved to England, where he worked in theatre and as a writer and script consultant on British and American television series.

Donovan is known for co-writing and directing the cult film Apartment Zero (1989) and for co-writing the screenplay for Death Becomes Her (1992) with David Koepp. He also provided additional dialogue for Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont (2005). His other directorial credits include State of Wonder (1984) and Somebody Is Waiting (1996). He has received awards including the Special Jury Prize and Critics Award at the Cognac Festival du Film Policier and the Golden Space Needle Award at the Seattle International Film Festival.
