Biography
Martin Pakledinaz was an American costume designer for theatre, opera, dance and film. Born in Sterling Heights, Michigan, he graduated from Wayne State University and received an MFA in costume design from the University of Michigan before moving to New York in 1977.
He was best known for his Broadway work, winning Tony Awards for the 1999 revival of Kiss Me, Kate and for Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002). He received ten Tony nominations overall and designed for many productions, including several with director-choreographer Kathleen Marshall. His film credits include My Week with Marilyn (2011).
Pakledinaz also designed for the Metropolitan Opera and other opera houses, and collaborated frequently with the Mark Morris Dance Group. He died in Manhattan on 8 July 2012.
