Biography
Martin Poll (1922–2012) was an American film and television producer. Born in Manhattan, New York City, he began his career in 1954 by producing 39 half-hour episodes of the Flash Gordon television series in Europe. He later restored the former Biograph Studios in the Bronx, reopening it as Gold Medal Studios, which became one of the largest film production facilities outside Hollywood and hosted productions including Elia Kazan's A Face in the Crowd (1957) and Daniel Mann's Butterfield 8 (1960).
Poll produced the 1968 film The Lion in Winter, starring Katharine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole, which received nine Academy Award nominations and won three, including Best Actress for Hepburn. He received a nomination for Best Picture as producer. His other feature credits include Night Watch (1973), Love and Death (1975) and Nighthawks (1981). He also produced television projects such as the 1993 film Diana: Her True Story and served as executive producer on the 2003 television remake of The Lion in Winter.
