Biography
Mary Lampson is a documentary film editor and filmmaker. She co-edited Barbara Kopple’s Harlan County, U.S.A. (1976) with Nancy Baker, Mirra Bank and Lora Hays. She also edited three films for Emile de Antonio: Millhouse (1971), Painters Painting (1973) and Underground (1976).
Lampson has worked with directors including Ricky Leacock, D.A. Pennebaker, Tia Lessin and Carl Deal, Lauren Greenfield and Avi Lewis. Her credits include Trouble the Water (2008), The Queen of Versailles (2012), This Changes Everything (2015), The Islands and the Whales (2016), The Bad Kids (2016), Eating Animals (2017) and Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution (2020), on which she was co-editor. She produced and directed the dramatic film Until She Talks (1981) for PBS’s American Playhouse and twenty-five short films for Sesame Street.
Lampson is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She has been a fellow and advisor at the Sundance Institute’s Documentary Editing and Story Lab.
