Biography
Maryam Hassan is an American actress and singer-songwriter. Born on 27 January 1993 in Brooklyn, New York, she made her screen debut as Tomika in the 2003 comedy film The School of Rock, directed by Richard Linklater. She performed vocals in the role, including a rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools”.
Hassan suggested the name Tomika for her character. The film is her only screen credit. She has since pursued a career in music, releasing work under the stage name Mayhrenate. In 2003 she appeared on the television programmes The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The View.
