Biography
Masaaki Tezuka (手塚昌明) is a Japanese film director and screenwriter. He made his directorial debut with the kaiju film Godzilla vs. Megaguirus (2000) and went on to direct Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002) and Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (2003), the latter of which he also co-wrote.
Born in Tochigi, Japan, on 24 January 1955, Tezuka graduated from Nihon University. He began working as an assistant director in the late 1970s and later collaborated with directors including Kon Ichikawa. Toho Pictures hired him as an in-house assistant director in 1994 following his work on 47 Ronin.
