Biography

Masao Tochizawa was a Japanese cinematographer. His credits include Profound Desires of the Gods (1968) and The Ballad of Narayama (1983), both directed by Shōhei Imamura. He received the Excellence in Cinematography Award at the 1984 Blue Ribbon Awards for the latter film.

Other films on which he worked as cinematographer or director of photography include Zegen (1987), Death of a Tea Master (1989), Deep River (1995) and To Love (1997). Tochizawa died on 21 August 1999.
