Biography
Masolino D'Amico, also credited as Tommaso Moro D'Amico, is an Italian writer, translator, screenwriter and theatre critic. Born in Rome on 11 October 1939, he is the son of screenwriter Suso Cecchi D'Amico and musicologist Fedele D'Amico. He studied literature in Rome and at Trinity College Dublin, and later taught English literature at universities including Roma Tre.
D'Amico contributed to the screenplay of Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet (1968), alongside Franco Brusati and Zeffirelli. His other screenwriting credits include Caligula (1979) and Otello (1986). He has also worked as a translator of English literature, particularly theatre works by Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller, and has written essays on theatre and film.
Since 1989 he has been theatre critic for the newspaper La Stampa. He has collaborated on films with directors including Zeffirelli and Mario Monicelli.
