Biography
Mason Daring is an American composer and musician. Born on 21 September 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he graduated cum laude in music from Amherst College in 1971 and earned a J.D. from Suffolk Law School in 1976. He practised entertainment law before turning to composition full time.
Daring began scoring films after meeting director John Sayles while serving as legal counsel on Return of the Secaucus 7 (1980). He has composed for nearly all of Sayles's subsequent features, including Matewan (1987), Lone Star (1996) and Go for Sisters (2013), as well as other films such as Eight Men Out (1988), The Opposite of Sex (1998) and Music of the Heart (1999). He has also written themes for the PBS series Frontline and Nova, and maintains his own record label, Daring Records.
