Biography

Mat King is an Australian-born director and producer who has worked in British, American and Australian television. Born on 3 February 1975 in Adelaide, he began his career in the 1990s as a second-unit director and made several short films before directing the children's series The Fairies in 2005.

He moved to the United Kingdom, where he directed fifteen episodes of MI High and worked on series including Law & Order: UK, Holby City and DCI Banks. King directed the 2013 Doctor Who episode 'Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS'. Later credits include The Wrong Girl, Wentworth, Pine Gap, My Life Is Murder and Return to Paradise.

He is a British and Australian citizen and a member of BAFTA, Directors UK, the Australian Directors Guild and AACTA. His work has received awards including the 2014 National Television Award for Best Drama (Doctor Who) and the 2013 Royal Television Society Award for Best Drama (DCI Banks).
