Biography
Matt Mattox (born Harold Henry Mattox) was an American dancer and actor. He is best known for playing Brother Caleb Pontipee in the 1954 film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mattox trained in ballet, tap and modern dance after moving to California as a child. He served in the United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War. After the war he performed on Broadway in musicals including Are You with It? (1945), Magdalena (1948) and Once Upon a Mattress (1959), and appeared as a dancer in numerous Hollywood musical films such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), The Band Wagon (1953) and Guys and Dolls (1955). He later worked as a choreographer and dance educator, teaching in Europe from the 1970s.
Mattox died in Perpignan, France, in 2013.
