Biography

Matt Morton is an American composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Columbus, Ohio. He is best known for his score to the 2019 documentary Apollo 11, directed by Todd Douglas Miller, for which he used only instruments and effects available in 1969, including a Moog IIIc synthesiser and Mellotron.

Morton received the 2019 Critics’ Choice Documentary Award for Best Score and the 2020 Cinema Eye Honors Award for Outstanding Original Score for the film. His other credits include the documentaries Dinosaur 13 (2014) and Why Did You Kill Me? (2021), both with Miller, and the Netflix series Painkiller (2023).

Earlier in his career he was a founding member, lead guitarist and vocalist of the Columbus rock band The Shantee.
