Biography
Matt Porwoll is a cinematographer based in New York. He served as co-cinematographer and co-producer on the feature documentary Cartel Land (2015), directed by Matthew Heineman.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize for Best Cinematography (shared). It later received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Non-Fiction Program (shared) and a Cinema Eye Honors award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography (shared). Porwoll has worked on other documentaries including Tigerland (2019) and the short All the Empty Rooms (2025).
