Biography
Matthew Betz was an American actor. Born on 13 September 1881 in St. Louis, Missouri, he served in the US Cavalry before spending several years in vaudeville and stock theatre. He made his film debut in 1921 and appeared in more than 120 films, often in supporting roles as detectives, criminals or tough characters.
Betz is known for his performances in The Unholy Three (1925), The Wedding March (1928), The Big House (1930) as Gopher, and Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933). He also directed one short film in 1917. He was married to Lulu Slipp and died on 26 January 1938 in Sawtelle, California.
