Biography
Maurice Jaubert (3 January 1900 – 19 June 1940) was a French composer of film, stage and concert music. He studied law at the Sorbonne and practised briefly as the youngest lawyer in France before devoting himself to music. He served as music director at Pathé-Natan studios from 1930 to 1935.
Jaubert scored many notable French films of the 1930s, including Jean Vigo’s Zero for Conduct (1933) and L'Atalante (1934), René Clair’s Quatorze Juillet (1933) and Le Dernier Milliardaire (1934), and several films by Marcel Carné such as Port of Shadows (1938) and Daybreak (1939). He was recalled to the army in 1939 and died from wounds received in action near Azerailles during the Second World War.
