Biography
Max Douy was a French production designer and art director. Born in 1914 in Issy-les-Moulineaux, he began working in film in the early 1930s as an assistant draftsman and sketch artist, later assisting on Jean Renoir's The Rules of the Game (1939). He became a full art director in the mid-1940s.
Douy collaborated extensively with director Claude Autant-Lara from the late 1940s onwards, designing sets for nearly twenty films including Le Diable au corps (1947), Occupe-toi d'Amélie (1949) and La Traversée de Paris (1956). His credits also include Jenny Lamour (1947), French Cancan (1955), Topkapi (1964) and the James Bond film Moonraker (1979). He received a César Award for Best Production Design for Malevil (1981).
He died in 2007.
