Biography

Maxima Basu is an Indian costume designer. She began her career in film as an assistant director on Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and Ship of Theseus (2012), before transitioning to costume design.

She has worked on Sanjay Leela Bhansali films including Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013) and Bajirao Mastani (2015), the latter earning her a Filmfare Award for Best Costume Design. Basu designed the costumes for Dangal (2016) after replacing the original designers on the production. Her other credits include Padmaavat (2018), Raazi (2018), Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) and All We Imagine as Light (2024).

Basu is from a Bengali-speaking family in Delhi and is an alumna of Kalindi College, Delhi University, and the Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication.
