Biography
Maya Angelou was an American actor, writer and civil rights activist. She played Nyo Boto in the 1977 miniseries Roots. Her other screen roles include Aunt June in Poetic Justice (1993), Anna in How to Make an American Quilt (1995), May in Madea's Family Reunion (2006), and Clarice Mitchell in an episode of Touched by an Angel (1994).
Angelou published seven autobiographies, three books of essays and several volumes of poetry. She received dozens of awards and more than 50 honorary degrees. She was born on 4 April 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri, and died on 28 May 2014.
