Biography
Maya Mumma is a documentary film editor. She edited episodes of the 2016 series O.J.: Made in America, directed by Ezra Edelman, for which she shared a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program, an ACE Eddie Award and a Los Angeles Film Critics Association award for best editing.
Mumma began her career working in the edit room on the documentary Restrepo. She has since edited numerous documentaries and series, including Which Way Is the Front Line from Here? The Life and Time of Tim Hetherington (2013), Mr. Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown (2014), King in the Wilderness (2018), John McCain: For Whom the Bell Tolls (2018), True Justice: Bryan Stevenson’s Fight for Equality (2019, also as producer) and Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union (2021).
Originally from Oklahoma, Mumma holds a B.A. in Social Anthropology from Boston University and an M.A. in Media Studies from the New School, where she also completed its Documentary Media Studies programme. She is a member of the American Cinema Editors.
