Biography
Meadhbh McHugh is an Irish playwright and screenwriter. She wrote five episodes of the 2022 BBC and Hulu series Conversations with Friends, an adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel produced by Element Pictures.
McHugh’s stage work includes the 2018 adaptation of Louise O’Neill’s novel Asking for It, co-created with Annabelle Comyn and produced by Landmark Productions, The Everyman and the Abbey Theatre. Her debut play Helen and I (2016) was staged by Druid Theatre Company and transferred to the Dublin Theatre Festival. Her radio play April Showers (2014) won a P.J. O’Connor Award.
She holds a PhD in Theatre from Columbia University (2021) and is a graduate of The Lir Academy and Trinity College Dublin.
