Biography
Melaw Nakehk'o is a Canadian actress, visual artist and traditional moose hide tanner. She is best known for her role as Powaqa in the 2015 film The Revenant, her first film appearance.
Born in Fort Simpson in the Northwest Territories, Nakehk'o is Dehcho Dene and Denesuline. She is a co-founder of the organisation Dene Nahjo and has taught moosehide tanning at the Dechinta Bush University Center for Research and Learning, for which she received a Minister's Cultural Award in 2012. She is based in Yellowknife.
