Biography
Mere Tokorahi Boynton is a New Zealand actor and singer. She is known for her role as Mavis in the 1994 film Once Were Warriors.
Boynton was born in 1966 in Puha and affiliates to the Te Aitanga a Mahaki, Ngāti Oneone and Ngāi Tūhoe iwi. She trained in singing at the Conservatorium of Music, Wellington Polytechnic, and studied Māori Studies at Victoria University of Wellington. Her other screen credits include The Piano (1993), The Dead Lands (2014) as Turikatuku, and Hinekura (2019). She has also worked as an arts producer and administrator, serving as Director Ngā Toi Māori for Tāwhiri, the organiser of the Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts.
