Biography
Merrill Markoe is an American television writer, screenwriter and author. She was born in New York City on 13 August 1948 and studied art at the University of California, Berkeley, where she received a BA and an MA. She later taught art at the University of Southern California before moving into comedy writing.
Markoe was the original head writer on Late Night with David Letterman and shared three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. She has written for television series including Newhart, Moonlighting (1989) and Sex and the City. She has also written books of essays and novels, contributed to periodicals, and appeared as herself in the series Hacks.
