Biography
Mervyn Haisman (15 March 1928 – 29 October 2010) was a British screenwriter of film and television. Born in London, he worked as an actor and managed a theatre company before turning to writing in the mid-1960s. His first television credit was an episode of Dr. Finlay's Casebook in 1967.
In collaboration with Henry Lincoln, Haisman wrote three Doctor Who serials during the Patrick Troughton era: The Abominable Snowmen (1967), The Web of Fear (1968) and The Dominators (1968, credited under the pseudonym Norman Ashby following disagreements with the production team). Their contributions introduced the Yeti monsters and the character of Colonel (later Brigadier) Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. They also co-wrote the screenplay for the 1968 horror film Curse of the Crimson Altar.
Haisman wrote for series including The Onedin Line, on which he served as script editor, Howards' Way and Swallows and Amazons Forever!. His partnership with Lincoln ended in the mid-1970s.
