Biography
Michael Aldridge was an English actor. Born in Glastonbury, Somerset, he made his professional stage debut in 1939 and maintained a long career as a character actor in theatre, film and television.
He is known for playing Percy Alleline in the 1979 BBC adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Seymour Utterthwaite in the BBC sitcom Last of the Summer Wine (1986–1990), and Pistol in Orson Welles’s Chimes at Midnight (1965). Other credits include roles in Yes, Prime Minister (1986), Clockwise (1986) and Inspector Morse (1987).
Aldridge appeared in numerous stage productions from the 1930s onward and later concentrated on screen work, including appearances in Tales of the Unexpected (1979) and Shanghai Surprise (1986).
