Biography
Michael Blake was an American author and screenwriter. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War era, where he began writing for a base newspaper, and later studied journalism at the University of New Mexico and film at the University of California, Berkeley, as well as attending Eastern New Mexico University.
Blake wrote the novel Dances with Wolves (1988), which he adapted into the screenplay for the 1990 film of the same name directed by and starring Kevin Costner. The film won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and Blake received the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. His first produced screenplay was Stacy's Knights (1983), which starred Costner. He died on 2 May 2015 in Tucson, Arizona, after a long illness.
