Biography
Michael Dobbs, Baron Dobbs, is a British author and Conservative politician. He wrote the political thriller novel House of Cards, published in 1989, which introduced the character Francis Urquhart.
The novel was adapted into a BBC television miniseries in 1990. Dobbs wrote the sequels To Play the King (1992) and The Final Cut (1995), both of which were also adapted for BBC television.
Born in 1948, Dobbs previously worked in Conservative Party politics, including as Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. He was created a life peer in 2010.
