Biography
Michael Patrick Donovan is a Canadian film producer, executive and screenwriter. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he co-founded Salter Street Films with his brother Paul Donovan in 1983. The company produced the long-running satirical series This Hour Has 22 Minutes and the series Made in Canada.
Salter Street Films was acquired by Alliance Atlantis in 2001. Donovan later founded Halifax Film Company in 2004, which merged in 2006 to form DHX Media (later rebranded WildBrain), where he served as CEO and executive chair. He produced the 2002 documentary Bowling for Columbine, which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, and was producer and co-writer of the 2007 film Shake Hands with the Devil. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2019.
