Biography
Michael Herr was an American writer and war correspondent. He is the author of the memoir Dispatches (1977), based on his time reporting from Vietnam for Esquire magazine between 1967 and 1969.
Herr co-wrote the screenplay for Full Metal Jacket (1987) with Stanley Kubrick and Gustav Hasford; the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also contributed to the narration for Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now (1979) and The Rainmaker (1997).
