Biography
Michael Hoenig is a German composer and electronic musician. Born in Hamburg in 1952, he first gained recognition in the 1970s as a member of the progressive rock group Agitation Free and through a brief collaboration with Tangerine Dream. He released the solo album Departure from the Northern Wasteland in 1978 before moving to Los Angeles around 1980.
Hoenig has composed scores for numerous films and television series, including The Blob (1988), The Gate (1987), The Wraith (1986) and Class of 1999 (1990). He contributed additional music and served as musical director on Godfrey Reggio’s Koyaanisqatsi (1982), for which he is also credited with the scenario. He received a Primetime Emmy nomination for the main title theme of the series Dark Skies (1996–97). Hoenig owns a recording studio in Los Angeles and has also composed for video games such as the Baldur’s Gate series.
