Biography
Michael Preston (also credited as Mike Preston) was an English actor and singer. Born Jack Davies in Hackney, London, he began as a boxer and singer, achieving three UK Top 40 hits in the late 1950s before emigrating to Australia.
In Australia he worked as a nightclub performer, television host and actor, with a long-running role as Detective Bob Delaney in the series Homicide (1972–1973). He later appeared in films including The Last of the Knucklemen (1979) and as Pappagallo in Mad Max 2 (1981). He also took guest roles in US series such as The A-Team, Remington Steele, Airwolf, Highlander: The Series and Law & Order.
Preston was nominated for an AACTA Award for Best Actor for The Last of the Knucklemen. He died on 8 June 2026 in Florida, aged 88, and was survived by his wife Josie and two daughters.
